Effet d'une crise dystrophique dans l'etang de Salses-Leucate ArchiMer
Boutiere, H; Boree, Fde; Delille, D; Fiala, M; Gros, C; Jacques, G; Knoepffler, M; Labat, J P; Panouse, M; Soyer, J.
The dystrophic crisis in the lagoon of Salses-Leucae in 1979-1980 resulted in a bloom of the chlorophyceae Nannochloris sp. which attained a density in the order of 10 super(9) cells/litre. The worst effect was the destruction of oyster and mussel cultures because of overfeeding. This bloom also caused high turbidity which induced the destruction of large parts of sea-grass communities (Zostera)). One year after the beginning of this crisis, a gradual improvement of ecological conditions was noted, especially in the pelagic zone. The benthic environment recovered at a much slower rate. Sea-grass showed signs of recovery, organic matter concentrations and bacterial populations decreased. Furthermore, the macrofauna density increased notably. Nevertheless,...

Evolution a court terme des microflores utilisant les hydrocarbures en milieu subantartique. Comparaison des systems d'incubation naturels et artificiels ArchiMer
Cahet, G; Delille, D; Vaillant, N.
The short time degradation of crude oil "Arabe leger" was followed through several seasons using different biological and chemical parameters. Regular sampling allowed to measure total epifluorescent microflora, heterotrophic and hydrocarbon microflora, heterotrophic potentials with super(14)C glucose, glutamate and naphthalene. Some experiments concern taxonomic control of microflora development (API 20B). Shifts in M.P.N. numbers of total and specialized heterotrophic bacteria and quick responses in heterotrophic potentials appear in these cold area (8 degree C max.). Incubation in natural ecosystems allows to reduce the confinement effect observed in closed systems.

Microflores sulfatoreductrices en milieu subantarctique. Relations avec quelques parametres physicochimiques et biologiques. (Microflores totales et heterotrophes) ArchiMer
Delille, D; Bouvy, M.
The archipelago of Kerguelen with its complex fjord distribution is particularly interesting for the study of anoxic systems. Between 1968 and 1972, several stations were investigated fortnightly. One of these was further sampled weekly throughout 1982. Each sample series of sediment included the superficial aerobic and subsuperficial anaerobic levels. Each level was examined for direct epifluorescent counts, heterotrophic and sulfate-reducing bacterial numbers by M.P.N. methods, organic carbon and sulfide measurements. Sulfate-reducing bacteria seemed less related to total biomass than the heterotrophic microflora, the latter being dependent on organic supplies. The hydrogen sulfide production was directly related to the presence of sulfate reducers;...

Seasonal and inter-annual variability of bacterioplankton biomass at station Kerfix, off Kerguelen Islands, Antarctica ArchiMer
Delille, D.
Between January 1992 and March 1995, the research project Kerfix undertook the first regular non-coastal multiyear acquisition of parameters related to the carbon cycle in the Southern Ocean at a time series station located at 50degrees40'S-68degrees25'E, 110 km southwest of the Kerguelen Islands. I present here a general overview of the bacteriological data collected during this survey. Bacterioplankton biomass at Kerfix station was always significantly lower than in the direct vicinity of the Kerguelen Islands. Bacterial abundance decreased from surface to deepest layers (from 10(6) cells ml(-1) in surface layer to 5.0 x 10(4) cells ml(-1) at 1500 m). In contrast, mean cell volume (0.1 mum(3)) and proportion of free-living bacteria (80%) were relatively...
